CPU Usage - Finde synder.
When the cpu usage spikes, what's the cause? 8-15% seems high as a baseline - mine stays around 0-3% most of the time. You can sort the processes in task manager by cpu usage; just put the high ones at the top of the list. It sounds to me like your server is running fine other than the performance issue.

Convert SAP Oracle Database to IBM DB2 Database??
When first booting to windows without opening Explorer CPU usage begins at about 3%, give or take(on my machine that is). CPU Usage at 100%
My MAC shows over 100% often, but its not clear if top is averaging the 2 cpus or just not going over 100, or just showing 1 of the cpus. Is there any way to show the per-cpu usage to get an idea of the overall efficiency of sharing? Are there any tools that can be used to monitor this? What exactly is top showing?

It's measuring three values: CPU time Which consistently is SERVER. NO. NOWHERE does it say it is the DB server CU that is beibg measured. 100% CPU usage non-stop
I check "top" to see processor usage every now and then. Right now, the processor usage "averages" about 75% idle. At what point is the CPU usage considered too low to be acceptable? 40%? 50%? I think you are a bit turned around referring to 'idle time' as 'cpu usage'. It is when the cpu load gets high that you

One CPU of a dual CPU system is only 50%. Is there any way to show the per-cpu usage to get an idea of the overall efficiency of sharing? Are there any tools that can be used to monitor this? The CPU usage with Win2k's built-in CPU monitor reaches an absolute max at 20% for anamorphic + DD5.1 track DVD's. However, outputting through the analog out jack on

Whatever your name is, The yield() method in the Thread class will not reduce your CPU usage. It will let something else run if something else is waiting to run... but if there is idle CPU, the thread will still use it. The fact that the system is "sluggish" or "unresponsive" (totally subjective modifiers, BTW) does not mean there is excessive CPU utilisation.....there are other things more likely involved.
