FreeBSD vs Linux cpu usage measurements
When in ATA133 mode, I've noticed that the CPU usage is very high when copying a large test file from a drive on it to a drive on my normal onboard IDE controller. According to the Win2k task manager, it's about 80% CPU usage, with nearly all of that Kernel time. In a older thread, somebody recommended using the

I have the same issue but the CPU usage to 100% gets initiated when I engage Caps Lock. VBA code speed/menus/CPU usage--what's going on?
If my SP_1 fetch increases by 5000 records my CPU usage shoots up by 5 times that 15 secs. Now when the refresh happens every 10 secs my CPU usage is clogged and the SQL Server CPU usage on task manager shoots up. If anyone can suggest how I can avoid this CPU usage, it will really help in my application.

Monitor CPU usage all all users on terminal server
In the taskmanager I noticed that, when sorted by CPU usage, the "System Idle Process" "climbs up the ladder" until it finally is the process that uses most CPU although there is no other application opened. When I restart the system the same begins again. To me it doesn't make sense to reboot a system every two or

Once I close it, my CPU usage goes up to 75% or so and stays there. I have tried a couple of different process monitoring programs (wintop and TaskInfo2000) and they both show the idle process using the majority of the CPU time. I have used both the system monitor and the Analog-X Net Stat Live, which includes a

I've recently rebuilt a customer Win2k SP1 installation on a P2B-DS based system which is running dual PIII 550 Slot 1 CPU's. With only Adaptec CD loaded in the sys tray, CPU usage is being reported at 50% for each CPU for the " idle process". Does anyone have something to offer which would explain the reported CPU

CPU usage 100%, computer temperature becomes to hot!
My point is that 100% CPU usage, by itself, is not a sign of inefficiency. Indeed, all other things being equal, 100% CPU usage says that the system is maximizing use of a finite resource--CPU cycles--to accomplish a task. Would you rather sit at a non-responsive machine knowing that the CPU was idle waiting for

I've several measuring application (FreeMemory1.97, for example) and from the moment they show that CPU usage is 100% from first seconds of computer start. This state remains in Safe Mode. For getting CPU usage of a process the object to query is the "Process" object, the counter is "% Processor Time", and the instance is the name of the process. CPU % usage question
Initial tests on a dual boot opteron showed Linux using 0% CPU for 32 player servers so I got suspicious. From talking to people it appears that Linux only registers cpu usage on the click tick so if a process was scheduled on the previous tick but yielded before the current tick it would have 0% cpu usage.

It used to use 5-6% of a 33MHz 486 CPU, which seemed reasonable. It still uses 5-6% (average, standard deviation around 2%) of my two modern CPUs: a 1.8GHz Sempron on one machine and a 2.2GHz AthlonXP on another. In both cases I have set update-hz to 1 to minimise the load, but still the CPU usage fluctuates

I ran the tests again using perfmon to monitor CPU usage, timeit.exe from the Win2k3 resource kit to time the copy, and the xcopy command to run the copies It did, however, still highlight quite a difference in CPU usage. Perfmon only recorded total CPU usage (ie user + system), so I compared this against the
