Hardrive CPU Usage KA7/KT7... Help!

100% CPU usage
If you're seeing 130% on a single cpu system we may need to take some steps to improve the reporting. -- Best regards, Daniel mailto:dan...@FreeBSD.org I'd like to note that I find it confusing and inconsistent to have Top average the cpu usage as the main usage figure, but use a different formula for the processes

SLOW SBS....High CPU Usage and Memory Usage
Or you can use cat for a real lightweight program to show cpu load. This is the answer that has been mentioned several times. But, is it correct? How can you relate loadavg to cpu usage? As far as I know the values in loadavg relate to the average number of processes in the run queue. You would look at the "load

High CPU Usage with IE6.0? Is this an issue? Anybody noticed?
When I open taskmgr, this task takes a lot of cpu and then the numbers jump up and down across several windows tasks. I had this problem in XP Pro-SP2 and continues to have it after my upgrade to Vista-Ultimate. I am going to look into the hardware aspect of it tonight but wanted to run this by you to see if you

Using some of these tools, I was able to find out that my CPU usage was actually normal. When is CPU usage considered "too low"?
Even moving the mouse is going to cause CPU usage as the video has to track and display the movements (moving the mouse around in circles fast enough and you will get a noticeable CPU spike on most computers). I really wouldn't worry much about CPU usage unless it tops out and stays there.

I get no CPU usage and no IDLE usage either! Sytem is OK right after boot and then stops telling me CPU usage. Anyone have any ideas/guesses? System runs perfectly except for no CPU stats all 0. CPU Usage 40% Idle?
[snip] There is a weird thing: if I change cx_lowest to C2 when the machine is completely idle, top shows that CPU usage for interrupts immediately jumps to almost 20%. Change cx_lowest to C1, CPU usage drops back to almost 0%. Is this normal ? [snip] I mis-reported the issue. Actually the above behavior occurs if

Colon Terminus Colon_Termi...@hotmail.com microsoft public win2000 hardware Hi Ian: Yes, IDE drives will ALWAYS use considerably more CPU than SCSI ... generally about 3 times as much. System Idle Process CPU usage increases with time
When I copy anything from the CD to the HD, and do monitor the CPU usage in NT I see 60-100% CPU usage!!! I thought that SCSI is not supposed to consume that much CPU power. PCI busmastering SCSI controllers have low CPU usage. ISA bus SCSI controllers on Intel PCI chipset mobos use more CPU than ATA PIO devices

Is there something generally wrong with how linux determines total cpu usage (via procmeter3 and top) when dealing with applications that are threaded?
